Budapest Classical

classical music, Budapest classics, classical music programmes

Well, we are not aware that Arnold is a talented violinist, but probably he could have become a great musician, with his hunger for success and his toughness. His intention though was different. It is known from his success stories that between his childhood, spending in an Austrian village, and the latest project of Terminator 5, he did indeed received titles like Mr Universe, a Hollywood star, and Governor of California. Unfortunately we are not aware that he will ever play a violin concerto in the future, but if Arnold was about to become a musician, well, his willingness and sacrifice (that we can learn from him), would have been greatly supported in a Hungarian Music School. During my trips to other countries, I came to realize how much appreciated Hungarian music teachers are. Their knowledge, and the famously known “Kodály módszer”, “Kodály-method” had a huge impact on our music culture, and all around the world. A great many people visit Budapest to take part in classical music lessons in the Liszt Ferenc Music Academy, spending here from weeks to years, learning from the greatests. We are very fortunate to enjoy these artist’s performances right here, in several gorgeous locations. I would advise you to see them all!

The following places offer you numerous classical music performances at very reasonable prices.

MÜPA / Palace of Arts müpa, palace of arts

The Palace of Arts is one of the most modern Hungarian cultural institutions. It opened its door to the public in 2005, and it provides home for many different disciplines of arts: classical and modern music, jazz, dance performances, and film. The venue has no pair in Central Europe. The architecture, as well as the technical infrastructure, the building hosts ideal stages for productions of the highest level. The Bartók Béla National concert hall has one of the largest Organ in the world. My favorites for the upcoming month are: Szegedi Kortárs balett/Modern ballet performance, music: Beethoven: IX Symphony, March 10; Grigorij Szokolov piano concerto March 17.  Read more about the building and check out the program here:

music academy Liszt Ferenc Music Academy

The University had opened it’s doors in 1875, and this was the only university that was founded by Liszt Ferenc / Franz Liszt. It’s great professors, like Liszt, Hubay, Popper, Dohnányi, Bartók, Weiner, Kodály, and also the considerable alumni had and still has tremendous impact on the world’s musical heritage. The building of the Academy has recently been renovated, and opened to the audience again, for our great pleasure. Among the programs the Piano evening of Keun Tae Park, who is the winner of the Liszt Competition in 2014, March 19, and the chamber music workshop March 28 might have great interest of the music lovers.

Please check out the program and find something most enjoyable for your own taste.

Opera House opera house

The Hungarian State Opera opened it’s doors to the public in 1884, and the first performance was Bánk Bán. This is the most popular Hungarian opera, and it has been on the stage ever since. Other performances also meet the highest standards of any Opera Houses around the world. Each year, thousands of tourists visit the building to take in one of Budapest’s most impressive 19th century national monuments. If you do not have a chance to see a performance, it is highly recommended to visit the building itself (guided tours in English are almost every day, even for children with ballerinas). The acoustics is said to be among the bests! Bánk Bán, the Hungarian Opera with English subtitles is on the program list March 4/14; Mozart: Don Giovanni can also been seen several times, thanks to the Spring Music Festival.
